Because Don's job has grown so large, it is unfair to ask him to continue to maintain the email database and keep the lines of communication open to members without some local help. At the annual meeting in Norfolk, SEACSM officers decided that it was time to update our communications system between members and the chapter officers. With the use of email, it is now possible to communicate vast amounts of information, between many people, in a very short period of time. This capability now allows us to notify members of timely news and information on short notice. Thus, in the very near future, we will begin communications with members through this "email network".
The network will consist of a pyramid of members who will serve to disseminate information to and from members and the chapter officers (yes, this is a pyramid scheme!). This network will serve to disseminate information with minimal work for each of the participants. The flow of information is best illustrated by the chart below. The network will utilize state coordinators that will establish a distribution list (one email sent to several individuals) of coordinators at the universities/organizations in their state. Then, when input is needed from members, the state coordinators can use their current distribution lists to elicit a response from members (e.g., views on various chapter issues) and forward the compiled responses to the chapter. To get this system off to a good start, please make sure that your email address is current. Then, look forward to hearing more from your state coordinator. By pooling our communication efforts, we can make the chapter work more efficiently and effectively!
