Information
for the Public
Florida Atlantic University works towards
total program access to qualified individuals
with disabilities. However, this can only
be accomplished with the help of people with
disabilities. The responsibility for requesting
accommodations originates with the individual
with a disability. Each individual department
or campus entity provides accommodations for
individuals with disabilities for public events.
Please utilize the contact information for
the event to make your needs known. If you
encounter any difficulties in this process,
please contact the University's ADA Coordinator.
If you believe you were denied
a reasonable accommodation or you were not
provided with an effective accommodation,
you may discuss your concerns, and if you
choose, file a complaint through the Equal
Opportunity Programs Department. They can
be contacted at:

Information for
the FAU Community hosting the event
As a recipient of federal funds under
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of
1973, FAU will provide program access to
qualified individuals with disabilities.
As a Title II facility under the Americans
with Disabilities Act, FAU will attempt
to provide the individual's first choice
of accommodation, if the accommodation is
reasonable and will not fundamentally alter
the activity. Each individual department
or campus entity is responsible for the
arrangement and payment of accommodations
for individuals with disabilities for public
events. All events open to the public need
to be scheduled in an accessible location.
If you need resources on where to find services
and products for accommodations please utilize
the
Accessibility Resource Guideor
the
Resource link page.
Each request for an accommodation is an opportunity
for the University community to exhibit our
commitment to providing access to people of
all abilities. If you have any questions about
this process, please contact the ADA Coordinator.
Required Statement
for Publicized Announcements
Please be advised that all publicized events
need to contain the following statement:
“[Your organization/group] wishes
to make this event accessible to people
of all abilities. If you need a reasonable
accommodation to fully participate in this
event please contact [person] at [phone
number and e-mail address] or TTY Relay
Station 1-800-955-8770. Please make your
needs known as soon as possible to allow
sufficient time for effective accommodations,
preferably by [insert day of week and date
of 4 business days prior to the event].”
Please note, that although you can request
that individuals with disabilities request
accommodations 4 days prior to the event,
they may request them the day of the event.
If the accommodations are requested the
day of the event, it is possible that you
may be unable to provide them. However,
whenever reasonable accommodations are requested,
FAU must make a good faith effort to provide
accommodations. Please document all of your
efforts.
If you deny an individual accommodations,
that person may file an appeal through the
Office of Equal Opportunity Programs. Please
keep in mind our goal is to provide access
to individuals of all abilities to all University
activities.
Individuals with disabilities may not be
charged for more than anyone else to assist
in covering the costs of accommodations.
The University community is also encouraged
to advertise events in a variety of formats
to reach individuals of all abilities (i.e.
visual-flyers and audio-FAU radio).
