Asbestos may be present in many building materials installed prior to the mid-1970. Employees receiving Asbestos Awareness Training are not expected to work with asbestos, but may work in areas where asbestos-containing material (ACM) may be present.
The intent of this training is to promote awareness of where ACM might be present, the consequences (to both self and building occupants) of disturbing ACM, and proper work practices to eliminate exposure when working near it.
Who Should Attend?
Mandatory for all janitors. Appropriate for maintenance workers and any other interested employees who work in and around areas with ACM.

All FAU employees with the potential for occupational
exposure to bloodborne pathogens (BBP) in the workplace must receive training as
mandated by OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens 29 CFR 910.1030. Occupational
exposure includes reasonably anticipated skin, eye, or mucous membrane contact
with blood or other potentially infectious material while performing job duties.
The training explains transmission of BBP in the workplace
and emphasizes safe work practices and control measures to reduce occupational
exposure. Training is offered to laboratory personnel (working with human
materials such as cell lines, tissues, blood and blood components), custodians,
first responders, health care workers, campus police and others at risk of
exposure in the workplace. Training is required at time of assignment and at
least annually. Duration is approximately one hour. Training is scheduled
monthly or as needed.

This course includes a discussion of the requirements of OSHA’s Permit-required Confined Space Standard 29CFR 1910.146 and FAU’s Confined Space Program. Topics include: selection and use of protective materials and equipment; the duties of confined space entrants, attendants and entry supervisors, and the requirements of the written permit system.

Workplace fire Safety guidelines and regulations are
primarily derived from the National Fire Protection Association's Life Safety
Code (NFPA 101) and the Occupational Safety & Health Administration's (OSHA)
regulations contained in Title 29, Part 1910, Subpart E of the Code of Federal
Regulations. These regulations apply to buildings and work areas and provide
basic requirements for the protection of property and life and the prevention of
fires and explosions. OSHA requires employers to have a Fire Prevention Plan and
to inform their employees of fire hazards to which they are exposed upon initial
assignment to their jobs.
Fire Prevention and Emergency Evacuation training has been developed to comply with the above regulations and guidelines. Employees will learn about the Fire Prevention Plan and Emergency Evacuation Procedures of their work place, understand the threat and power of fire, and learn fire prevention tips.

"Get Out and Stay Alive." This training provides persons who live and work in Residence Halls with the information necessary to maintain a fire safe living environment. This program focuses on fire prevention, fire protection and emergency evacuation, and is designed to save lives in the event of a fire. Topics include: maintaining a fire safe room, what to do upon activation of fire alarm, fire drills, what to do during other emergencies, proper maintenance of fire protection systems, and how to institute a fire watch system.

Fire Safety Training For Building Supervisors provides building supervisors or managers with an overview of their roles in the event of an emergency building fire protection systems of buildings, and guidance and direction for maintaining a fire safe work environment. Participants are also trained to follow up on the most common fire code violations caused by building occupants. This program also helps to establish a network of contact persons in campus facilities, which ensures that fire safety and regulatory compliance issues are handled in an efficient and timely manner.

Fire Safety and Crowd Management Training provides guidance to departments that host large size indoor and/or outdoor events, or departments that have Class A&B occupancy facilities such as theatres, auditoriums, gymnasiums etc. The program offers an overview of the requirements that need to be met from the beginning to the end of an event, and the procedures that need to be in place to ensure the safety of the crowd and the organizers. Participants will learn about basic fire protection features of buildings and how they work, what to do during emergency situations, emergency evacuation procedures and how to deal with emergency personnel, how to handle different types of crowds, occupancy classifications & limits, and how to properly use fire extinguishers.

Event managers, people in charge of auditoriums, theaters and gymnasiums, as well as leaders of student organizations.

Fires and explosions are the most serious physical hazards
faced in a typical chemistry laboratory. The risks associated with
flammable and combustible liquids can be minimized by understanding the fire
hazards presented by chemicals used in laboratories. While proper
procedures and training can minimize the chances of an accidental fire, you must
still deal with a fire emergency should it occur. This training gives you the
basics, on how to prevent fires, the proper procedure to follow should a fire
occur, proper storage of flammable liquids and other hazardous materials, the
behavior of fire and how it spreads as well as the proper selection and use of
fire extinguishers. Completion of Fire Extinguisher Training is
also required

OSHA Standard 1910.157 directs that where an employer has provided fire extinguishers for employees in the workplace, the employer shall provide an education program to familiarize employees with the general principles of fire extinguisher use and the hazards involved with incipient stage fire fighting. The employer shall provide the required education upon initial employment and at least annually there after.
This training program provides extensive information on the classification of fires, portable fire extinguisher are classifications, operation of portable fire extinguisher, and the hazards involved in fighting an incipient stage fire. Classroom training provides attendees with the opportunity to actually use a fire extinguisher to put out a small fire.

Heartsaver First Aid training, developed in conjunction with the American Heart Association (AHA) is available through EH&S. The course provides comprehensive training that teaches rescuers to effectively recognize and treat adult emergencies in the critical first minutes until EMS arrives. The AHA certifies a person for 2 years and the training takes approximately 3-3 ˝ hours.

64E-11 on Food Hygiene. This training focuses on safe practices and procedures

This course covers the requirements for Lockout/Tagout of all energy sources during servicing and maintenance of machines or equipment. The requirements of the OSHA’s Lockout/Tagout Standard – 29 CFR 1910.147 will be reviewed, include procedures for the application of locks and tags, and a discussion of the types of energy Lockout/Tagout is designed to control.

Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries training, developed in conjunction with the Divers Alert Network, is available through EH&S. This course provides entry-level training to better recognize possible dive-related injuries and to provide emergency oxygen first aid while emergency medical services are activated. It certifies a person in oxygen administration by DAN for two years and takes approximately four hours to complete for new students or two hours for recertification. Participants are trained using a video presentation along with actual skills performance with a standard oxygen kit. This training requires hands-on student participation; therefore, only live classroom courses are offered. Note: This course does not provide first aid training or CPR training, and class size is limited to 6 individuals.

Radiation Safety
Training is required for all users of radioactive material at the University as
required by Chapter 64E-5 of the Florida Administrative Code, Control of
Radiation Hazard Regulations. This training covers
information on the regulations governing radiation safety, the potential hazards
of radiation exposure, the means for controlling those hazards, and the
importance of minimizing radiation exposures. Annual
refresher training is accomplished via a web-based training module; however,
if you do not have access to a computer please contact the RSO to make special
arrangements. A certificate will be issued to all individuals completing the
course.

Who Must Attend?
All new
employees that use radioactive materials must take the Radiation Safety
Orientation Course. Individuals must register and attend one of the

All university personnel who are required to wear respirators must receive training and be fit-tested annually. Topics reviewed in the initial training include an overview of the OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard, 29CFR 1910.134, respirator protection factors, proper use and care of a respirator and cartridges, respirator inspection and maintenance, and respirator limitations. All trainees will be fit-tested at this session.
