Donald R. Cooper is an associate professor in the School of Public Administration, where he teaches research methods, statistics, and organizational behavior. A faculty member since 1976, he has taught in the MBA, executive MBA. He currently teaches in the MPA and doctoral programs in public administration and business. He also served as the associate dean of the business school, director of the public administration doctoral program, and director of a research center. Cooper's Ph.D. is from Kent State University. In addition to grants, articles, books, and monographs, he has received several teaching awards, most recently from the College of Architecture, Urban & Public Affairs.
The seventh edition of Business Research Methods, (Irwin/ McGraw-Hill) was released in August 2000. It was the first comprehensive business research textbook in the '70s and, now enhanced by the creativity of co-author Pamela S. Schindler, remains a market leader in North America, UK, India, and China.
Dr. Cooper is also the managing director of the Cooper Research Group, a customer satisfaction and market research consultancy specializing in customer satisfaction, loyalty, defection, and market segmentation research for the electronics and computer industries.
While on leave of absence in Paris from 1989-1992, Cooper created IBM's customer satisfaction program for Europe, while reporting to the general manager of the Personal Systems business. He was also on the team that launched IBM's first consumer brand PC in Europe - which ultimately became the Aptiva brand in the U.S. Currently, he provides senior management of several firms with brand, segmentation, and service/repair analysis.
Prior to his academic career and consulting ventures, Cooper was responsible for executive recruitment at a Fortune 500 and served as an U.S. Air Force Captain in the 1151st SAS during four years of active duty. He has two grown children.
