Executive Officers 2011-2012
Alan Alvarez: President
Alan is a 2nd year graduate student in the school of Urban and Regional Planning. Born in Colombia, he moved to the United States when he was two and has spent the majority of his life in the state of Florida. He attended the University of Florida and received his Bachelor’s degree in History. His interests are in GIS and urban revitalization. Alan currently works in the VPT (Visual Planning and Technology) lab as a graduate research assistant. Outside of Planning, his interests include traveling, reading and playing sports.
Marianne Quinn: Vice-President
Marianne is a 2nd year graduate student in the school of Urban and Regional Planning. A second-generation Floridian born in Hollywood and raised in Coral Springs, she has spent her life in the state of Florida, and hopes to use her education to make a difference in this state that she knows and loves. Marianne attended Florida State University and received a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, with minors in Geography, Psychology, and Interior Design, and she currently works at the Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale. Outside of school, her interests include theatre, ice skating, and enjoying the great outdoors.
Rasheed Shotuyo: Chief of Staff
Rasheed is a 2nd year graduate Urban and Regional Planning student. He has a Bachelor’s in Political Science. He has an interest in urban revitalization and a passion for the urban renewal of mid-western cities. He plans on using his planning education to revitalize urban areas through innovative development and the attraction of business and industry. His interests outside of urban planning are: traveling, cracking jokes and discussing world events.
Justin Root: Student Body Liasion
Justin is a second year graduate student in the school of Urban and Regional Planning. He attended Southeast Missouri State University, where he earned his Bachelors of Arts in Spanish. Raised in Tennessee, he has previously lived in Mexico and St. Louis, Missouri, where he was a ninth grade teacher of Spanish in the St. Louis Public Schools district as well as an Enrollment and Matching Specialist at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri.
Justin’s interests include old houses, old cities, current events, education, travel and his dog, Leo. He plans to pursue a career in community advocacy or social/educational equality upon graduation.
Adriana Scotti: Treasurer
Adriana is a second year graduate student in the School of Urban and Regional Planning. She was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela and moved to the U.S. in her teenage years. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Florida State University in Political Science/International Affairs. Her interests include urban economics and spatial organization of large urbanized areas. In her role as treasurer, she is committed to the efficient management of finances including budget and generating funding options for the organization.
Claudia Hasbun: Community Service Coordinator
Claudia has been working for the City of Sunny Isles Beach for the last six years; in here she discovered her passion to public service, particularly in the realm of community development. She graduated from FAU in the summer of 2010 with a Bachelor in Urban & Regional Planning and she is currently in her first year of the Master Urban & Regional Planning program. Her ideals are to continue developing new approaches to reach community goals and shape successful neighborhoods encouraging environmental and social equity.
Jenny Hsu: Secretary
Jenny Hsu is in her second year masters student of Urban and Regional Planning. She was born and raised in Rockville, Maryland and completed a bachelor’s degree in Sociology, with a concentration in Social Psychology, from the University of Maryland, College Park. Jenny hopes to use her knowledge in the fields of sociology and planning to make a positive impact on the environment and the human condition. Her interests include community development, economic revitalization and planning in the context of sociocultural diversity.
