Lieberfarb Scholarship Information
The Daniel Lieberfarb Scholarship for Outstanding Motion Picture Business Student was established by Warren Lieberfarb in memory of his father, Daniel L. Lieberfarb who was a resident of Boca Raton and participated in activites at FAU.
Warren Lieberfarb received the 2003 Louis B. Mayer Motion Picture Business Leader of the Year Award; he is universally acknowledged as “father of DVD” for his role as the architect and pioneering “evangelist” of DVD technology, one of the most successful consumer electronics product launches in history. For over 20 years, Warren Lieberfarb was the head of Warner Home Video (WHV) which he built into the premier video software company in the world with direct operations in 78 countries. Under Lieberfarb’s leadership, WHV grew from $73 million in total revenue in 1982 to over $4 billion in total revenue in 2002.
The first winner of the Daniel Lieberfarb Scholarship for Outstanding Motion Picture Business Student was Jaime George who received her award in 2005. Ms. George was an MBA student in FAU’s College of Business at the time and was also a producer at WBPT-Channel 2, the Miami PBS affiliate. Prior to entering graduate school at FAU, George had received her undergraduate degree in film from the University of Central Florida in Orlando.
The 2006 Daniel Lieberfarb Scholarship recipient was Maximillian Papadopoulos, a senior in FAU’s College of Business majoring in finance. Upon completing his undergraduate degree, Papadopoulos is planning to pursue graduate studies in film. He will be visiting France during the 2006 Cannes Film Festival and is receiving an industry badge from the DeSantis Center allowing him access to the Cannes Film Market, the largest film market in the world, and the associated seminar series and screenings.
The Lieberfarb Scholarship is awarded annually to a College of Business major, graduate or undergraduate, who is dedicated to motion picture industry studies and is completing coursework in the field in an exemplary manner. The scholarship provides the recipient with a $2,000 cash award which covers a significant portion of fees and tuition for a full-time student. Both the 2005 and 2006 awards were presented by DeSantis Center Associate Director Rob Davis during the annual College of Business awards ceremony.
