Freshman Reading - Online Community

The freshman reading is designed to introduce the incoming freshman to the spirit of inquiry and dialogue that is integral to becoming a learned person.  All incoming freshman will read a common book chosen by the Freshman Reading Committee and engage in an interactive experience with their peers, FAU students and faculty.  This is a university-wide experience in which persons from diverse interests, majors and campuses will come together in the virtual environment.

This experience will prepare you for the rigors of academic study at FAU.  In addition, the virtual community provides an opportunity to connect with FAU students, staff, faculty and
administrators, who you will work with and who can provide support as you initiate your studies at FAU.  This year’s book is,
Finding Mañana by Mirta Ojito

In the virtual community participants will be able to explore and reflect on the meaning and significance of the book as well as gain valuable information about the FAU community, how to develop critical reading skills, and to communicate with other incoming students and current FAU students – to gather the important facts every freshman needs to know.

Go to your online community at *http://blackboard.fau.edu. Don't delay. The culmination of the Online Community Experience will be the Freshman Convocation on August 22, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. in the Carole and Barry Kaye Auditorium in the Student Union on the Boca Raton campus.  The Convocation featured speakers include University Leaders and Students and the announcement of the Phi Kappa Phi Freshman Awardees.  All freshman in attendance will receive a commemorative cord during the ceremony.
