Freshman Reading Program 2009
Frequently Asked Questions
Question: What is the Freshman Reading Program?
Answer: The purpose of FAU's Freshman Reading Program is to orient new students to our academic community by having a common reading experience with fellow classmates, faculty, staff, and upper-class students, and our goal is to engage students in discussions, projects, and co-curricular activities generated by a one-book experience.
Question: Who chooses the book and why?
Answer: The Freshman Reading Committee choose the book. This committee is comprised of faculty from each college at the university. They meet and assess all suggested works, narrowing it down to two or three books.
Question: Is the Freshman Reading mandatory?
Answer: The Freshman Reading is not mandatory at this time; however, we strongly encourage all Freshman to read the book and participate in the Online Community. We've found that the degree to which students take this assignment seriously is an accurate indicator of how they will perform as Florida Atlantic University students.
Question: Will there be other related activities centering around the Freshman Reading Program?
Answer: Yes, but the specifics have yet to be determined. Please check this website from time to time as we update it with new information.
