The speakers at this year's Freshman Convocation welcome the freshman class of 2013 to Florida Atlantic University. They include the following:

The keynote address will be given by the 2009 Distinguished Teacher of the Year, Dr. Eric Chiang. Since 1969, the Distinguished Teacher of the Year has been awarded annually to one FAU faculty member on the basis of scholarship, research and publications, classroom teaching, academic counseling, and University and community service. The award winner is determined by students and is announced at the annual Honor's Convocation held on April 8, 2009.

Eric Chiang began his career in Economics as an undergrad at UCLA. He entered the graduate program in Economics at the University of Florida in 1997, and was awarded the Ph.D. in 2002. His first university appointment was at New Mexico State University, where he was a visiting assistant professor in the MBA program and the Dept of Economics and International Business. In the summer of 2003, Eric accepted a position in the Economics Dept at Florida Atlantic University. Currently, he teaches courses in Microeconomics and International Trade at the undergraduate and Masters levels.
