Freshman Convocation 2012

Event Details

 

At least 2,500 freshman are expected to attend the 2012 Freshman Convocation, to be held at 1:00 p.m., August 19, in the Carole and Barry Kaye Performing Arts Auditorium. The event officially marks the beginning of the new academic year with classes starting on August 20.

The keynote speaker this year is Dr. Deborah Louda, Associate Professor of Clinical Biomedical Science in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine. Dr. Louda is the receiptant of this year's Distinguish Teacher of the Year. Her bio can be read under the Speakers link.

The academic procession will be led by Dr. William McDaniel, the President of the University Faculty Senate. Following will be Dr. Edward Pratt, Dean of Undergraduate Studies, Dr. Deborah Louda, 2012 Distinguish Teacher of the Year; Dr. Brenda J. Claiborne, Provost and Chief Academic Officer; and Dr. Mary Jane Saunders, President of Florida Atlantic University.

The convocation will feature music performed by the FAU Marching Owls and lead by Dr. Sean Murray, Assistant Professor of Music and Associate Director of Bands.

At the end of the ceremony all freshman will be presented with a blue and silver academic cord. The cord represents the student's commitment to achieving academic excellence and success at FAU and it represents the beginning of a life-long connection to FAU.
