About Convocation
The Freshman Convocation is the official beginning of first-time-in-college students' entry into Florida Atlantic University. The convocation formally welcomes freshmen to the beginning of their academic career and represents Florida Atlantic University's involvement and commitment to its newest members of the community of learners. As freshmen assemble together with faculty, staff, and administrators, they gain a sense of identity that connects them to one another and to the university. The Freshman Convocation is sponsored by the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Studies.
Time and Location
The Freshman Convocation is from 1:00 - 2:00 pm. Doors open at noon and Freshmen are asked to be seated no later than 12:45 pm. FLC students need to check in at the Live Oak Pavilion between 11:30 am and 12:15 pm to attend Convocation with your community. Freshman Convocation is held in the Carole and Barry Kaye Performing Arts Auditorium inside the Student Union on the Boca Raton campus.
Meaning of the Cord
All freshmen in attendance will receive a blue and silver academic cord at the end of the ceremony. The cord represents a commitment to achieving academic excellence and success and the beginning of a life-long connection to FAU. Freshmen will wear their cord at their graduation four years from now.
