FAU Counseling & Psychological Services
Training Program

Welcome to our training page!

FAU Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is at an exciting time of expansion in staff, programming, and training. Our staff is dedicated to training the next generation of psychologists and mental health counselors and are committed to providing a broad and enriching training experience. Our center has two training programs: the Psychology Doctoral Internship and the Practicum Training program.

We utilize a developmental model where experiences are designed to meet each trainee at their unique level of knowledge and skills. We strive to provide a supportive and challenging environment which we hope facilitates the most productive training year possible. Our staff members vary in their theoretical orientations and are diverse in their backgrounds. All of our trainees are exposed to a team that values thoughtful, ethical, culturally sensitive treatment, assessment, and campus programming. We value input from all staff members and operate in a respectful environment to facilitate change in our clients and in our organization.

Our trainees are an integral part of the staff and they are treated as early career professionals who collaborate and contribute to the CAPS. We regard training as a program in which all staff takes part. Counseling and Psychological Services has offices on three of FAU’s campuses: Boca Raton, Davie, and Jupiter. Practicum trainees are placed at all three of our campus offices, while doctoral interns work primarily on the Boca Raton campus with the option of work on another campus. Please explore our site to learn more about our training philosophy and the day-to-day roles of our trainees.

Warm regards,

Amber Lyda, Psy.D.
