FAU Cares Emergency Fund 2020
Florida Atlantic University has established the “FAU Cares Emergency Fund” for currently registered, degree-seeking students who are experiencing financial hardship.
Miriam A. Campo, who heads up the Office of Sponsored Research, is making sure those who are isolated the most know they are not forgotten. Her efforts led to the creation of a card outreach initiative for residents of nursing homes. And now a group of FAU students are collaborating to ensure this initiative continues.

Harriet L. Wilkes Honors students enrolled in ART4654C Honors Electronics and Electronic Objects for Art this spring created electronic projects that are poetic and innovative. Students learned how to create electronic objects with sensors and motors during the course and prepare files for 3D printing and laser cutting.

A new COVID-19 drive-through testing site has opened at FAU Tech Runway (901 NW 35th Street, Boca Raton, FL 33431). To make an appointment, call 1-800-209-7919 Monday - Friday from 9 A.M to 5 P.M. Testing is available to anyone over age 12, with or without symptoms. No doctor referral is needed. ID and face covering required. Please enter the campus on Spanish River Blvd.

These assignments are designed to be infused directly into any Canvas course and can all be completed virtually by your students. The Sandler School of Social Work’s Office of Professional Development is offering free webinar courses that provide guidance on these changing times. Nearly 170 attendees participated in the first webinar - “Social Work Ethics during the COVID-19 Pandemic”- led by FAU Social Work Professor and ethics expert Allan Barsky, JD, MSW, PhD. An additional three webinars are being offered, one on each of the first three Fridays in May. Their topics include: the pandemic’s impact on substance use disorder and recovery; self-care for caregiving professionals; and navigating client trauma.

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act and the Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act both went into effect on April 1, 2020. Both laws provide employees with paid sick leave and/or expanded medical leave for specified reasons related to COVID-19.
