Submissions

Send manuscripts and letters of inquiry through email to weisser@fau.edu or through postal mail to:

Christian Weisser, Editor
Composition Forum
Wilkes Honors College of Florida Atlantic University
5353 Parkside Drive
Jupiter, FL 33458

When sending by postal mail, please send three copies of your manuscript, stripped of any identifying information. Do not send electronic copies; they will be requested after articles are accepted for publication. The average length of articles published in Composition Forum is between 2,500 and 6,000 words, although longer articles may be considered if they are clearly of superior quality.

All manuscripts should be typed and double spaced, including quotations, endnotes, and works cited list. Follow the latest MLA Handbook guidlelines and the Columbia Guide to Online Style. Manuscripts judged by the editor to be appropriate for the journal are submitted to blind review by external readers. Ordinarily, decisions will be made within twelve weeks of submission. The editor maintains responsibility for the selection.

Program Profiles

Composition Forum invites submissions to the Program Profile section of the journal. These profiles should describe the ways in which theories and pedagogies shape individual writing programs. Composition Forum considers writing programs in its most inclusive definition, including first-year composition programs, writing-across-the-discipline and/or writing-in-the discipline programs, graduate programs in rhetoric and composition, and undergraduate major or certificate programs in writing.

Program Profiles are generally 2,000 to 4,000 words, although longer or shorter profiles may be considered. Program Profiles are to include a general description of the program, the theory informing the program, a mechanical description of the program, and an institutional and/or budgetary detail of restraints guiding (or controlling) the program’s growth and development. In addition, please include a section that addresses the question: “If I knew then what I know now, I would have done X differently.” Or, “if I could reinvent this program from scratch, I would do X.” Or, “what I’ve learned from my directorship of this program is X.” Such exploratory comments will serve to inspire, to warn, and to educate present and future program administrators. Send queries to Michelle Ballif, Program Profile Editor, at mballif@uga.edu.

Book reviews

Book review queries should be sent to Derek Owens through email at owensd@stjohns.edu. The average length of reviews published in Composition Forum is between 750-1500 words, but the editors welcome queries regarding longer review essays. Suggestions for books to be reviewed are encouraged, as are requests to be placed on our list of reviewers. We welcome reviews of any timely books in the field of rhetoric and composition as well as reviews of other texts and websites that may be of interest to teachers and scholars of writing. Completed book reviews should be sent as Word or WordPerfect attachments through email to Derek.

Questions concerning the website can be sent to Bradley Dilger, Website Editor, at cb-dilger@wiu.edu.

Composition Forum is published semiannually by the Association of Teachers of Advanced Composition with the support and generous financial assistance of The Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College and the Graduate Program in English at Florida Atlantic University.
