DESCRIPTION: Join Dr. Edith "Edie" Widder for a peek at her life as a deep-sea adventurer and learn how she is using glow-in-the-dark creatures to help protect the Indian River Lagoon, which encompasses more than 30 percent of Florida's Atlantic coastline. Widder has been exploring the depths of the ocean using deep-diving submersibles since 1984, and will share her many fascinating stories and unique video footage of bizarre denizens of the depth. A senior scientist and director of the bioluminescence department at the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution since 1989, Widder developed her interest in bioluminescence from her experience piloting the single-person submersibles Wasp and Deep Rover.
