As Florida and its neighboring states have witnessed, hurricanes are one of the most powerful and destructive forces of nature. Dr. Armin Fuchs, associate professor of Complex Systems and Brain Sciences at FAU, will give an in-depth look into the energy and force of these natural disasters, focusing on how hurricanes can release the amount of energy equivalent to 400 hydrogen bombs, or the electricity used in the U.S. in a six-month period during a single day. Fuchs' 50-minute presentation will include satellite movies and demonstrations, concentrating on wind speed, hurricane originations and paths, basic mechanisms and storm predictions.
