FAU Names New Executive Vice
President
of University Advancement
BOCA RATON, FL (January 11, 2006)
- Florida Atlantic University President
Frank T. Brogan named Dr. Lawrence F. Davenport as
the university's new executive vice president of
university advancement. Responsible for overseeing
fundraising functions and governmental affairs,
Davenport brings institutional knowledge,
experience and expertise to the position.
"The president has offered me a tremendous
opportunity with this position, and I truly look
forward to leading FAU's University Advancement
team," said Davenport. "I'm sure that FAU's best
days are within reach."
More than two years ago, Davenport was named
executive vice president and chief operating
officer at FAU. Beginning in August, he became
interim-vice president of university advancement.
Davenport came to the university after
previously serving as deputy chief administrative
officer for the U.S. House of Representatives and
assistant secretary of education for the U.S.
Department of Education under two separate
secretaries: Terrel H. Bell and William J. Bennett.
In addition, he served as the executive director of
the Hale House Center Inc., New York, an
organization dedicated to helping rebuild families
through the provision of child services, support
networks and innovative educational programming.
Prior to this position, he served as vice president
of finance and operations at the Milton Hershey
School and the chief financial officer for the
Seattle Public School System. Davenport earned a
doctorate in education from Fairleigh Dickinson
University.
"Not surprisingly this position attracted
some wonderful candidates from throughout the
nation," said FAU President Frank T. Brogan. "It
wasn't necessary to look any further than Dr.
Davenport. His understanding of the university and
proven track record of working with our community
to attract new donors and strengthen the
relationships with our current university
supporters has helped us continue our upward
fundraising trend."
The position was filled after a six month
search. Davenport began his tenure in this new
position in January.
