Cuarteto Latinoamericano and Heather Coltman to Perform
BOCA RATON, FL (November 29, 2005) - Celebrate 20 years of music-making in South Florida as Florida Atlantic University's Chamber Soloists kick off their season with two concerts featuring the Cuarteto Latinoamericano and Heather Coltman. The first concert will be held on Saturday, December 10 beginning at 2 p.m. in the Liberal Arts Auditorium at FAU's Davie Campus, 2912 College Avenue. There will be a repeat performance on Sunday, December 11 beginning at 3 p.m. in the University Theatre on FAU's Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. General admission is $15 with group discounts available. FAU students, faculty, staff and alumni may obtain free admission with ID.
The concert will include String Quartet in G Major, Op. 54, No. 1 by Franz Joseph Haydn; "Spanish Garland" by Jose Evangelista; Presto No. 2 by Miguel del Aguila; and Piano Quintet in E flat major, Op. 44 by Robert Schumann.
FAU's Chamber Soloists program was founded in 1985 by Judith Burganger and Leonid Treer, both music professors at FAU. Over the years, they have brought some of the world's leading ensembles and artists to FAU. The Cuarteto Latinoamericano is world renowned for their presentation of classical and contemporary Latin American music. They are often credited with having set off the current boom in Latin American classical music. Founded over 20 years ago in Mexico, the quartet is made up of the three Bitran brothers -- Saul and Aron, who are violinists, and Alvaro, a cellist, together with Javier Montiel, violist. The four performers have become international ambassadors of their repertoire, touring extensively in Europe, North, Central and South America, as well as New Zealand and Israel. The group was nominated for two Grammys and received three CMA/ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming.
Coltman, who is chair of FAU's department of music, has also performed worldwide as a solo and collaborative artist and has received many international prizes. These include the Joanna Hodges International Piano competition and the Geza Anda International Piano Competition.
This concert by Cuarteto Latinoamericano and Heather Coltman is the first Chamber Soloists concert of the season. Other concerts include "Roots of Classical Music: Caucasian Sketches" with Leonid Treer on March 18 and 19; and a concert of Brahms, Dvorak and Beethoven, with Judith Burganger, Leonid Treer and the Gagliano String Trio, on April 8 and 9. Package prices for all three concerts are available.
