FAU Criminology Professor Contributes to
Emerging Profession in Policing
PORT ST. LUCIE, FL (October 21, 2005)- Dr. Rachel Boba, assistant professor in the department of criminology and criminal justice at FAUs Treasure Coast Campus, recently published "Crime Analysis and Crime Mapping," one of the first books to introduce this emerging profession in policing to an undergraduate student audience. Boba is currently working with the Port St. Lucie Police Department to institutionalize Crime Analysis and Mapping methods within the department's everyday practices. Specifically, these methods have been used to understand Port St. Lucie's construction site burglary problems.
"Rachel brings wisdom and knowledge to the table, said Port St. Lucie Police Chief John Skinner. "Working with academia will help make us a better government entity.
"Crime analysis is a field of study and practice in criminal justice that utilizes systematic data and analysis techniques, supports the mission of police agencies and provides information to a range of audiences, including the public. said Boba. Crime mapping is a subset of crime analysis that focuses on understanding the geographic nature of crime and disorder activity."
