FAU Symphony Orchestra in First Concert of the Season
BOCA RATON, FL (October 12, 2005) - Florida Atlantic University's Symphony Orchestra, conducted by new Director Laura Joella, will present a concert on Saturday, October 22 at 7 p.m. at the University Theatre on FAU's Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. General admission is $10 and guests may buy one ticket and receive one for free. FAU students, faculty, staff and alumni may obtain free admission with ID.
The concert will include Four Dance Episodes from "Rodeo" by Aaron Copland, "The Incredible Flutist" by Walter Piston, "Mother Goose Suite" by Maurice Ravel and "Festive Overture" by Dmitri Shostakovick.
Joella joined FAU in May of 2005 and made her directing debut in the Department of Theatre's presentation of "West Side Story." Joella's previous positions include music director/conductor of the Mason Orchestral Society in Mason, Michigan, including both the Community Orchestra and the Youth Symphony Orchestra; conductor for the Michigan State University Concert Orchestra, and assistant instructor of strings at Michigan State University School of Music in East Lansing, Michigan
The concert is presented by the School of the Arts' Department of Music in FAU's Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, in partnership with Bank of America and the Palm Beach County Cultural Council.
