FAU Sorority to hold Forum on Hazing

BOCA RATON, FL (September 26, 2005) - Florida Atlantic University sorority Theta Phi Alpha is holding a forum on hazing, in conjunction with National Hazing Prevention Week. The forum will be held on Wednesday, September 28 at 8 p.m.

Florida Senator Walter Campbell and Senate Representative Adam Hasner will be the featured speakers. Both are sponsors of new legislation on hazing called The Chad Meredith Act. This bill creates new criminal offenses specific to hazing at the high school or college level. It provides that it is a first degree misdemeanor to commit an act of hazing that creates a substantial risk of physical injury or death. The offense level increases to a third degree felony if the act of hazing actually results in serious bodily injury or death.

FAU President Frank Brogan, Dr. Lesley Bates, Dean of Students and Krissy Leitner, president of Theta Phi Alpha, will also be speaking.

For more information, contact Krissy Leitner at 954-244-3821 or Theresa Brier at 954-755-0135.
