FAU Presents Biennial Faculty Art Exhibition

BOCA RATON, FL (August 31, 2005) - Florida Atlantic University's Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters will present the 2005/2006 Biennial Faculty Art Exhibition from Friday, September 16 through Thursday, September 22 in the Schmidt Center Gallery on the Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. An opening reception for the exhibition will take place Thursday, September 15 at 7 p.m. in the Schmidt Center Gallery. This reception will be preceded by a reception for the exhibition "It's a Dog's Life: Photographs by William Wegman from the Polaroid Collection," which will take place in the Ritter Art Gallery at 6 p.m. Both receptions and exhibitions are free and open to the public. Several exhibiting faculty will discuss their work in the Schmidt Gallery at 7:30 p.m.

The Biennial exhibition will include the works of a wide range of media including painting, sculpture, photography, graphic design and video. The work comes from faculty in the College's Department of Visual Arts and Art History and its Florida Center for Electronic Communication, the Department of Communication, and FAU's School of Architecture in the College of Architecture, Urban and Public Affairs (CAUPA).

Florida Atlantic University's distinguished faculty have received many honors for artistic excellence. In 2005, the faculty presented a large exhibition in the Miami Design District concurrent with the internationally significant "Art Basel Miami Beach." Individually, Amy Broderick, Geoffrey Thomas, Blane de St. Croix, Carol Prusa and Tammy Knipp have won the prestigious South Florida Cultural Consortium's Visual Art Fellowship, a $15,000 or $7,500 grant awarded to artists in the five southeastern Florida counties. Carol Prusa was also awarded one of three 2003 Researcher of the Year awards presented by Florida Atlantic University, and Tammy Knipp was nominated for the 2003 Rockefeller Foundation New Media Fellowship, a national award presented by curators and exhibitors.

The 2005/2006 Biennial Faculty Art Exhibition is presented by the University Galleries in FAU's School of the Arts. The exhibition and related programs have been made possible in part by the Palm Beach County Cultural Council, Palm Beach County, Bank of America, FAU Student Government through student activity fees, and contributors to the University Galleries.

Admittance to the Schmidt Center Gallery and Ritter Art Gallery is free and open to the public Tuesday through Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. Group tours are also available by appointment.
