FAU Appoints David Askinas to Adjunct Professor for Sports Law in MBASport Program
Former CEO and general counsel of United Soccer Leagues to teach at FAU
BOCA RATON, FL (August 22, 2005) - Florida Atlantic University recently named David Askinas, a nationally recognized leader in the sport of soccer and head of his own sports consulting firm, Adjunct Professor of Sport Law for the MBA in Sport Management program at FAU.
From 1995 to 2005, Askinas held the positions of chief executive officer, chief operating officer and general counsel of United Soccer Leagues (USL), the largest soccer league in North America. While at USL, Askinas authored the league's first standard player contract and administered the league's television package with Fox Sports. He also established the league's grievance procedures and chaired the league's disciplinary arbitration panels.
In 2003, Askinas was named an arbitrator for the Court of Arbitration for Sport and today continues to serve in that international position. Askinas was a founding partner of the New York Fever, a professional soccer team, and served as the team's corporate secretary and general counsel. From 1997 to 2004, he served on the board of directors of the United States Soccer Federation and currently serves on U.S. Soccer's rules committee and the membership committee for the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Mr. Askinas earned a bachelor's degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri and a juris doctorate (with honors) from the University of Connecticut School of Law.
The MBA in Sport Management program at Florida Atlantic University was founded in 2000. Since that time, approximately 90 percent of graduates currently work full-time in the sport or entertainment industry. The MBASport program at FAU is the only AACSB-accredited MBA in Sport Management program in the state of Florida.
