FAU Names David Rutherford
Director of Development for the College of
Education
BOCA RATON, FL (July 21, 2005) -- Florida Atlantic University recently named David Rutherford director of development for the College of Education. Serving as a member of University Advancement, Rutherford comes to FAU with strong fundraising experience in a variety of settings. A former award-winning educator, Rutherford is also skilled in corporate financial management. In his new position, Rutherford will be responsible for all fundraising activities in the College of Education.
For 20 years Rutherford was affiliated with Zion Lutheran Christian School, a K-12 private school in Deerfield Beach, FL. A vital influence in the school's steady growth, Rutherford served as its headmaster. He has also taught, directed athletics and managed operations for the school and connected church. Rutherford's recruitment efforts and commitment to academic excellence resulted in expanded enrollment, while his relationship-building with key donors attracted broad support for the school.
More recently Rutherford served as the executive director and president of the Film the Bible, Inc., a non-profit organization whose mission is to translate the entire bible from written word to computer-generated filmed images. As president, Rutherford spearheaded a variety of marketing and fundraising initiatives.
"We are so fortunate that David has joined our department," said Ann Paton, vice president for University Advancement. "His success in development coupled with his strength as a strategic planner will help the College of Education in its goal of providing South Florida with an array of new and talented classroom teachers."
Rutherford, who lives in Deerfield Beach, holds a bachelor of science degree from Southern Connecticut State University and a master's degree in counseling from Liberty University. Rutherford, who has practiced as a marriage, family and adolescent therapist, sees himself as a "genuine people person." Solution-driven and goal oriented, Rutherford is happy to be a part of the FAU family and meet the challenges ahead.
