FAU's Memory and Wellness Center
Hosts Reception to
Commemorate Designation as Memory Disorder
Clinic
BOCA RATON, FL (June 28, 2005) - Florida Atlantic University's Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center, part of the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, held a reception today in honor of receiving the State's designation as a "memory disorder clinic." FAU President Frank T. Brogan hosted this event that honored Florida Senator Burt Saunders and Representative Adam Hasner, both of whom spearheaded the initiative in the Florida legislature to give FAU's Center this special designation.
"The Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center plays such an important role in the community as it reaches out to assist individuals with memory problems through innovative services and therapeutic programs," said FAU President Frank T. Brogan. "This designation given to the Center by the legislature is truly an honor. It will allow increased, collaborative research and education throughout Florida and will certainly benefit even more individuals."
The "memory disorder clinic" designation, which becomes official on July 1, recognizes the Memory and Wellness Center as one of the top 15 facilities in the state of Florida. It will allow for more community education, research and diagnostic evaluations. The designation also provides for important networking, as it opens up the opportunity for collaborative partnerships on research occurring throughout Florida.
"This is an important milestone for the Memory and Wellness Center" said Dr. Ruth Tappen, a Christine E. Lynn eminent scholar in the College of Nursing. "We appreciate the support of Senator Saunders, Representative Hasner and all our friends and supporters in helping us achieve this designation."
The Memory and Wellness Center is grounded in the concept of caring and dedicated to addressing the complex problems of memory impairment and aging through research, education and provision of care. Services offered by the Center include comprehensive memory evaluations conducted by a multi-disciplinary team, recommendations regarding intervention strategies and treatments for memory problems, counseling for individuals and families, client and family education and support, house calls to the homebound, consultations to physicians and/or residential care facilities and an adult day center on site.
