University Club Gets Update on FAU Medical Program
BOCA RATON, FL (April 13, 2005) - Dr. Dwight W. Warren, vice dean for biomedical programs and chair of biomedical science in Florida Atlantic University's Charles E. Schmidt College of Science, discussed FAU's medical education program at a recent University Club dinner meeting held at Pete's Restaurant in Boca Raton.
The department of biomedical science admitted its first class of medical students in cooperation with the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine last August.
Warren came to FAU in 1999 to set up the medical school program with the University of Miami and to design and build the Charles E. Schmidt Biomedical Science Center. Before arriving at FAU, Warren was a faculty member at the University of Southern California School of Medicine for 27 years. Warren earned a bachelor's degree from the University of California at Berkeley and a Ph.D. in physiology from the University of Southern California. He also received the master of science in education degree with a specialty in medical education and medical administration leadership from the University of Southern California in 2000.
The University Club, founded in 1976, develops and implements fundraising projects and encourages its members to give of their time, talent and energy to help achieve the goals of the University. Over the years, the organization has contributed more than $700,000 to various University projects and annually presents two scholarships to FAU students.
