FAU's DECA Chapter Receives State Honors

BOCA RATON, FL (March 31, 2005) - Undergraduate students in FAU's College of Business recently received top honors at the 40th annual statewide competition of collegiate chapters of Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA). Led by marketing faculty member Paul Koku, the students traveled to Orlando to compete against 22 other Florida colleges and universities. Participants were judged on their marketing and management proficiencies in sports and entertainment marketing, business-to-business marketing, business ethics, human resource management decision making, financial services, travel and tourism, and management decision making.

Two of FAU's teams received first-place honors, three received second-place awards and four were ranked third, fourth or fifth. The teams will travel to Anaheim, California in early May to compete in the International Career Development Conference.

"We are proud of the accomplishments of these students, and look forward to the international competition next month," said Koku.

Over 185,000 business students in the nation belong to DECA. Activities promoted by DECA are designed to integrate with and enhance a student's college curriculum. In addition, the organization's close ties with the business community provide both opportunities for students and an appreciation for the American free enterprise system.
