FAU Libraries to Host Lecture by Award Winning
Environmental Educator

BOCA RATON, FL (March 4, 2005) - Florida Atlantic University Libraries, in conjunction with the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, will present a lecture honoring Women's History Month from renowned eco-educator, Susan Hargreaves. The lecture will be Monday, March 28 on the 5th floor of the Wimberly Library on FAU's Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Rd. The event is free and open to the public.

In the spirit of her work, it is fitting that the name of Hargreaves latest lecture presentation is entitled "Compassion." The presentation, part of a groundbreaking project series that is being presented in women's shelters, presents the link between animal abuse and domestic violence.

Hargreaves is the humane education specialist for the Wildlife Care Center, a private, non-profit organization located in Ft. Lauderdale. She also is the founder and director of Earthkind, a non-profit educational organization based out of South Florida. Hargreaves also served as President of ARK-II, the Canadian Animal Rights network. She hosted and piloted the first radio series in Toronto dedicated to animal protection, as well as hosted radio programs in South Florida on the subject.

Hargreaves has been the recipient of numerous awards during her 22-year career including the Distinguished Educator Award, which was presented by Share the World, an international humane education organization, and the Compassionate Educator Award, presented to her by Archbishop McKenzie of Toronto, Canada.

A dessert and coffee reception with Hargreaves will be held following the lecture. For additional information, e-mail Bruce Barron at bbarron@fau.edu or call 561-297-2331.
