FAU Announces Mathew Forbes Romer Foundation-Roberta Meyers Nursing Scholarship Recipients
BOCA RATON, FL (January 28, 2005) - Florida Atlantic University's Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing is pleased to announce that Souroushan Khademi and Christina Virzi are recipients of the Mathew Forbes Romer Foundation-Roberta Meyers Nursing Scholarships. The emphasis of these scholarships is to promote critical nursing care for children with genetic disorders.
Khademi, who graduated in Fall 2004, has also earned a degree in Behavioral Neuroscience/Psychobiology from FAU. She is interested in working with children who suffer from various types of learning disabilities and genetic disorders. Khademi is also interested in studying brain functions, and its affects on behavior.
Virzi, who also graduated in Fall 2004, has a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's in marriage and family therapy. She currently works as a family counselor at the Lippman Youth Shelter with children from the ages of 13 to 17.
"The scholarships generated from the Mathew Forbes Romer Foundation are helping to support several of our students who will make a difference in the lives of children they are privileged to nurse, especially those with genetic disorders," said Dr. Anne Boykin, dean of FAU's Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. "We are very pleased to support the goals of this Foundation through education and eventually nursing research."
The Mathew Forbes Romer Foundation, Inc.'s mission is to promote and lead critical awareness, education, testing, counseling and research initiatives that hold promise for the prevention and eventual cure of fatal children's genetic diseases of the brain.
