Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center
Holds Dedication Ceremony

BOCA RATON, FL (February 17, 2005) - Florida Atlantic University's Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony and reception to celebrate the opening of the Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center on FAU's Boca Raton campus. The event, held under a tent on the grounds of the new building, was well-attended with approximately 450 people present.

"This Center will greatly impact the quality of life for those who make use of its services," said FAU President Frank T. Brogan '81. "We're very thankful for what the Greens have provided to FAU as we strive to become a leader in healthcare initiatives."

The $1.5 million gift from the Greens to the College of Nursing has created the 15,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility that is committed to addressing the complexities of aging and memory loss. With matching funds from the State of Florida, the gift totals $3 million.

"Our community has long needed a place to care for those who matter most to us," said Dr. Anne Boykin, dean of the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. "This center will not only deliver services with dignity and compassion. It will be a haven where our loved ones who have always steadied us will now get respect and honor in return."

The Memory and Wellness Center, with its comprehensive array of client-focused, sliding scale programs, will also be home to important gerontological research and community education.

"We sincerely wish a facility such as this wasn't necessary," said Anne Green. "But thanks to a partnership between Florida Atlantic University and the Boca Raton Community Hospital, the shared dream of so many has turned into a reality."

An additional construction project calls for the expansion of the current Center with the creation of a $14 million residential facility that will accommodate 90 assisted-living patients, 30 nursing areas, a clinical area, a physical therapy gym, and research and administration offices.

Attending the ceremony were friends and family of the Greens as well as FAU faculty and staff including Dr. Ruth Tappen, director of the Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center; Armand Grossman '67, '70, '77, FAU Foundation chair; and Ann Paton, vice president, University Advancement. Representing the community were Steve Abrams, Boca Raton mayor; Gary Strack, CEO, Boca Raton Community Hospital; and Pat Thomas, president of both the Caring Hearts Auxiliary and the Debbie-Rand Memorial Service League of Boca Raton Community Hospital.

Following the ceremony, all attending were invited to tour the facility. Refreshments were served on the patio behind the building, overlooking the future site of the center's Peace Garden, a gift from Art Scrogge and Roger DeCapito of Bermuda Landscape and Design, Inc.
