FAU First Lady's Tea to Benefit Broward Vision Fund
JM Family Enterprises Endows Scholarship

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (February 11, 2005) - In celebration of Florida Atlantic University's 40th Anniversary, President Frank T. and First Lady Courtney Brogan are hosting the First Lady's Tea on Friday, February 18 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Grande Oaks Golf Club. In honor of this event, JM Family Enterprises, Inc., as presenting sponsor, has created a $50,000 endowment that will enable FAU to give a scholarship in perpetuity to a deserving student each year. The endowment will generate funds to cover the cost of two semesters for one full-time student studying business at FAU.

"It is an honor to use my role as FAU's first lady to benefit the university, its students and the Broward Campus," said FAU's First Lady Courtney Brogan.

"FAU has always been one of Florida's top universities, especially in the field of business," said JM Family Enterprises Chairman Pat Moran. "It is exciting to see the school's growth and progress, as it gains well-deserved recognition for its outstanding academic programs. We are proud to be a part of the school's growth, and to have this opportunity to help ensure that bright young students can benefit from the strong business education that FAU provides."

Special presentations will be given by Dr. Robert P. Watson, FAU political science professor and author of several books on first ladies. Dr. Watson will also present two special guests: Susan Eisenhower, author of Mrs. Ike: Memories and Reflections on the Life of Mamie Eisenhower and granddaughter of President Dwight Eisenhower, and Bradley Patterson, author of The White House Staff: Inside the West Wing and Beyond and former senior advisor to President Eisenhower and other U.S. presidents.

This event, one in a series of 40th anniversary events hosted by FAU, is the official anniversary event for Broward County and provides FAU with the opportunity to host Broward business and community leaders that support the University. The tea begins with photo opportunities and book signings with the visiting dignitaries. As tea is served, guests will be treated to conversations with Eisenhower and Patterson as they share "behind the scenes" stories of the White House. Following the tradition of White House entertaining, guests will retreat to the veranda for cordials and hand-rolled cigars.

First Lady's Tea host committee members includes, FAU Trustee Nancy and Jim Blosser, FAU Trustee (Chair) Sherry and Dr. Tom Plymale, FAU Trustee Norman and Jane Tripp, FAU Trustee Dr. George Zoley, Lila and Dr. Larry Calderon, Barbara and Ron Castell, Sylvia and Joseph Cobo, Skip Johnston, Kelly and Filemon Lopez, Dorene and Christopher Pollock, Victoria and Mark Rixon, Karin and Lloyd Rhodes, Senator Debby Sanderson, Cyril "Sid" Spiro, Linda Stepenovitch, and Shane Strum.
