FAU Treasure Coast Campus Celebrates 40th Anniversary with Unveiling of Art in Public Places Piece

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL (February 11, 2005) - Florida Atlantic University President Frank T. Brogan '81 and Vice President Gerri McPherson '89 will host a reception at the Treasure Coast campus in Port St. Lucie on Friday, February 11 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The reception will honor FAU's 40th Anniversary and unveil Artist Kenneth M. Thompson's "Port St. Lucie Arch," the new Art in State Buildings piece at FAU's Treasure Coast campus.

"We are very pleased to have the "Port St. Lucie Arch" added to FAU's Treasure Coast Campus. We see this piece as the perfect finishing touch to our campus," said FAU Vice President Gerri McPherson. "The arch is located in our Ken Pruitt Courtyard, which is our primary location for special events and social gatherings, so many will be able to enjoy Mr. Thompson's artistic talent."

The sculptor, Kenneth M. Thompson, holds a Master of Liberal Studies in sculpture from the University of Toledo and Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from Siena Heights College in Michigan. Thompson has been sculpting for nearly 30 years out of his studio in Blissfield, Michigan.

The Florida's Art in State Buildings Program is administered by the Division of Cultural Affairs, Florida Department of State. The program provides up to .5%, or up to $100,000, of a state building's construction cost for public displays of art.

The event is open to the public. To RSVP, contact Jane Liquori at 772-873-3338.
