FAU Presents the Fourth Annual Florida Environmental Ethics Conference

BOCA RATON, FL (February 2, 2005) - Florida Atlantic University, as part of the South Florida Environmental Ethics Consortium (SFEEC), presents the Fourth Annual Environmental Ethics Conference entitled "Living on the Edge: South Florida's Environmental Future." The conference will be held on Friday, February 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Abdo New River Room at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 S.W. Fifth Avenue, Fort Lauderdale. This conference will focus on ethical considerations within environmental policy, urban design and community building.

Southeast Florida's urban area is home to more than 6 million people. Its "edges" are two unique and world-renowned ecosystems: in the west, the Everglades and in the east, the coral reefs and mangroves. The theme of this year's conference, "Living on the Edge," encourages discussion of the ethical and social challenges of sustaining a balance between South Florida's natural and man-made environments. Richard Pettigrew, a Miami attorney and former state legislator, who chaired the governor's commission on a Sustainable South Florida, will give the keynote address.

This year's conference is made possible by the Broward Center for Performing Arts, the FAU John Daily Institute of Government, the Florida Atlantic Planning Society, the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at FAU, the Catanese Center for Urban and Environmental Solutions and the Adelaide R. Snyder Professorship in Ethics.

The conference fee is $45 if paid in advance or $55 at the door and includes continental breakfast, registration, all handout materials and lunch. To register, contact the Broward Center's AutoNation Box Office on-line at www.browardcenter.org or call 954-462-0222 or visit the box office at 201 S.W. 5th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale. Students with ID and Florida Bioethics Network paid members may obtain admission free with advance registration at www.fau.edu/environment; otherwise, the regular registration process and fee will apply.
