FAU Hosts 2005 South Florida Substance Abuse Prevention Symposium

BOCA RATON, FL (January 10, 2005) - In an effort to increase awareness of substance abuse issues and the results of prevention in the South Florida community, Florida Atlantic University's Counseling Center and the Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association are co-hosting the 2005 South Florida Substance Abuse Prevention Symposium on Wednesday, January 19 from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. in the Grand Palm Room of FAU's University Center, located on FAU's Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road.

Featured speakers of the symposium include James R. McDonough, director of the Florida Office of Drug Control, and FAU President Frank T. Brogan to address the conference theme of preventing high-risk and underage drinking and alcohol related problems. In addition, speakers will address prescription drug abuse, including the abuse of Adderal, and the extent of substance abuse problems with high school and college students and possible solutions.

There is a $45 registration fee for the one day symposium, which covers the cost of 6 CEUs, a buffet lunch and a free exhibit table to share resources and showcase programs and services.
