FAU Hosts Abraham Lincoln Impersonator at the Distinguished Lecture Series on the American Presidency

BOCA RATON, FL (December 14, 2004) - Abraham Lincoln impersonator Jim Getty will speak at Florida Atlantic University as part of FAU's Distinguished Lecture Series on the American Presidency. During this final lecture of the series, he will perform as the nation's 16th president.

Getty's performance will begin on Thursday, December 16 at 6:30 p.m. at FAU's Boca Raton campus, Lifelong Learning Auditorium, 777 Glades Rd. and Friday, December 17 at 9:45 a.m. on FAU's Jupiter campus at the Abacoa Crown Theater, 4688 Main Street, Jupiter.

A native of central Illinois, Getty now resides in historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where he portrays the 16th president in a one-man show during the tourist season. His program has received the Pennsylvania Travel Excellence Award.

Having spent years in research of Lincoln and his contemporaries, Getty has developed several "first person" presentations of the president, which are viewed by many in national and state government festivities each year. In addition, Getty's voice has been used in two A&E television programs, "Abraham Lincoln; A Biography," and "The Assassination of President Lincoln." He also portrays President Lincoln in the Turner Television film, "The Ironclads."

The cost of the lecture is $10. Seating is limited. For more information on Lifelong Learning lectures at Boca Raton, call 561-297-6902. For more information on Lifelong Learning lectures at Jupiter, call 561-799-8547.
