FAU Alumni Association Honors Hall of Fame Recipient
BOCA RATON, FL (December 21, 2004) - The FAU National Alumni Association (FAUNAA) held its annual holiday wine and cheese reception on Wednesday, December 8, 2004. Hosted by President and Mrs. Frank T. Brogan '81, this FAUNAA-sponsored event drew more than 200 alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the university to the Eleanor R. Baldwin House on the Boca Raton campus. FAUNAA President Tom Workman '71 extended holiday greetings on behalf of the Association. The evening's special guest was alumna Kerri Ann Walukiewicz '95, the 2005 Florida Department of Education/Burdines-Macy's Teacher of the Year and newly inducted Alumni Hall of Fame member. Speaking before the guests, Walukiewicz, a reading and language arts teacher at Forest Grove Middle School in Fort Pierce, praised FAU's Treasure Coast campus for its quality courses, outstanding faculty and accessibility to a rapidly expanding community. Her innovative classroom strategies have opened the doors of learning to struggling middle school students.
Guests of the event were encouraged to bring stocking stuffers for a children's toy drive. By the evening's end, toys from each guest were collected and earmarked for delivery to the Boca Raton Salvation Army headquarters.
