Edmund Gerstein to Speak at FAU's
Frontiers in Science Lecture Series
"Shadow of Death: The Acoustics of Ship Strikes"
BOCA RATON, FL (November 3, 2004) - Florida Atlantic University assistant professor Edmund Gerstein will speak on November 4 as part of FAU's Charles E. Schmidt's College of Science Frontiers in Science lecture series. His lecture is entitled, "Shadow of Death: The Acoustics of Ship Strikes."
Gerstein's lecture will begin on Thursday, November 4 at 4 p.m. at FAU's Boca Raton campus, Schmidt Biomedical Center, Room 126, 777 Glades Rd.
Gerstein is the director of marine mammal research and behavior, and research assistant professor of psychology at FAU. His lecture will focus on the topic of endangered whales and other marine mammals like Florida manatees that are vulnerable to boat, barge and ship collisions.
Gerstein is a pioneer and an authority on the study of manatee hearing and bioacoustics. He is the first and only researcher to successfully measure the manatees' hearing abilities.
