FAU Ranks Nationally in Conferring Master's Degrees to Minority Students

BOCA RATON, FL (August 18, 2004) -- Florida Atlantic University was ranked nationally by Black Issues in Higher Education, a magazine published bi-weekly that focuses on education issues for African-Americans and other minorities, for conferring master's degrees to minority students. Overall, FAU was ranked 63rd for the number of master's degrees conferred to the Hispanic student population. For the 2002-03 academic year, approximately 89,576 master's degrees were conferred to all minority students throughout the United States.

"Florida Atlantic University works relentlessly to serve its community by enrolling quality students of all ethnic backgrounds," said FAU President Frank Brogan. "Certainly, to be recognized as one of the top universities for this accomplishment is a real honor."

Black Issues in Higher Education ranked FAU in a number of categories including:

  • 63rd in the nation for the number of master's degrees conferred to Hispanics;
  • 37th in the nation for the number of business, management, marketing and related support services master's degrees conferred to Hispanics;
  • 47th in the nation for the number of English language and literature/letters master's degrees conferred upon all minorities;
  • 20th in the nation for the number of English language and literature/letters master's degrees conferred to African-Americans;
  • 22nd in the nation for the number of computer and information sciences and support services master's degrees conferred to Hispanics, and
  • 50th in the nation for the number of physical sciences degrees conferred upon all minorities.
