FAU Presents Lecture: "Mystical Dimensions of the Soul"
BOCA RATON, FL (May 28, 2004) - The Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters at Florida Atlantic University will host a free public lecture, "Mystical Dimensions of the Soul" on Thursday, June 3 at 4:30 p.m. in the Education Building, Room 119, on FAU's Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. The lecture will be presented by David Patterson, director of the Bornblum Judaic Studies Program at the University of Memphis.
Patterson currently holds the Bornblum Chair of Excellence in Judaic Studies at the University of Memphis. He has also held positions at Oklahoma State University and the University of Oregon. He has taught courses on Israel, Jewish thought, the Holocaust, Judaism, ethics, masterworks of philosophy and literature and Russian literature. An active member of the World Union of Jewish Studies and the Association for Jewish Studies, Patterson has delivered lectures at universities and community organizations throughout the world.
Patterson has published more than two dozen books and more than 100 articles in philosophy, literature, Judaism, Holocaust studies and education. His books include "Open Wounds: The Crisis of Jewish Thought in the Aftermath of Auschwitz," "Along the Edge of Annihilation: The Collapse and Recovery of Life in the Holocaust Diary" and "The Greatest Jewish Stories Ever Told." He is also a co-editor, along with FAU's Raddock Eminent Scholar Chair of Holocaust Studies Alan L. Berger, of the "Encyclopedia of Holocaust Literature."
