FAU College of Education to Host Florida Future Educators of America Conference
BOCA RATON, FL (April 5, 2004) - Florida Atlantic University College of Education will host a conference on “Teaching: A Collaborative Journey.” FAU and the Institute of Teacher Education at Palm Beach Community College have partnered to launch new chapters of Florida Future Educators of America (FFEA) on their campuses. FFEA is a nationally recognized organization that provides support and networking opportunities for students pursuing careers in education.
The conference is on Wednesday, April 7 at 8:30 a.m. on the Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. It will combine active high school FFEA chapters with community college and university students who are completing their degrees in the field of teacher education, while developing their own campus chapters.
The theme of the conference is “Teaching: A Collaborative Journey.” It will feature a keynote address by Dr. Kathy Huie, interim associate dean for the College of Education at the FAU Jupiter and Port St. Lucie campuses.
The address will be followed by concurrent sessions featuring FAU and PBCC faculty, a student intern and various educators from the area, including A.D. Henderson School Principal, Dr. Marla Lee, whose session is entitled, “A View from the Principal’s Office.” Brenda Darr, middle school science teacher at Boca Middle, will be speaking on Brain Compatible Teaching and Learning, and Dr. Mary Lou Duffy, exceptional student education teacher at FAU, will be talking about classroom management.
