Receives Grant From Toppel Family Foundation To Assist In Establishing New
Center BOCA RATON, FL (March 24, 2004)
- The Florida Atlantic University College of
Education has received a $240,000 grant from the Toppel Family Foundation. The
grant, payable over three years, will assist the College in establishing a Center
for Early Childhood Education, Research and Community Partnerships (CECERCP),
a collaborative project between the Departments of Teacher Education and Exceptional
Student Education.
The creation of the
Center represents a dedication to children encompassing a range of diversities,
including difference in language, economics, social class, family structure, race
and ability. The goal of CECERCP is to develop multidisciplinary degree programs
in early childhood education, design professional development programs and establish
a research agenda in areas that are relevant to children from birth through grade
three.
"The generosity of the Toppel
Family Foundation has enabled the College of Education to move the early childhood
agenda from idea to reality," said College of Education Dean Gregory Aloia.
"We feel confident that the Center will have a positive impact that will
benefit children and professionals." -FAU-
