FAU Offers Homeland Safety
and Security Course
BOCA RATON, FL (March 16,
2004) -
Florida Atlantic University is
charting new territory this spring, offering a course
called Design for Homeland Safety and
Security.
The three-credit course is
being taught by Dr. Isaac Elishakoff and will give
students a background in many areas relating to the
engineering aspect of constructing buildings. Some of
the many topics covered in the courses syllabus
are risk analysis, cost-benefit analysis, statistical
value of life, acceptable probability of failure,
impact theories and thermal buckling.
Dr. Elishakoff has lectured
worldwide, including North and South America, Europe,
the Middle East and the Far East. He is the author or
co-author of seven books, including Probabilistic
Methods in the Theory of Structures and Safety
Factors and Reliability: Friends or Foes?
Students should be on the
cutting edge of what is happening, said
Elishakoff. We want to respond to the needs of
the nation.
