FAU Benefactor and Curator to Receive Silver
Medallion Award
Boca Raton, FL (March 2, 2004) -
Florida Atlantic University benefactor and curator of
the S.E. Wimberly Library Jaffe Collection, Arthur
Jaffe, has been selected by the National Conference for
Community and Justice as a 2004 Silver Medallion
honoree. The 26th annual dinner will be held on
Saturday, March 20, at the Broward County Convention
Center, 1950 Eisenhower Blvd., in Fort Lauderdale.
The Silver Medallion Awards are presented to
individuals who have demonstrated leadership in
promoting diversity and inclusiveness, either
personally or in a corporate environment.
Jaffe is the Rabbi Ario S. Hyams Endowed Library
Professor at FAU. He and his late wife Mata donated the
Arthur and Mata Jaffe Collection Books as Aesthetic
Objects, which is part of the S.E. Wimberley Library
special collections that now contains more than 3,000
rare and unusual books.
The Jaffe collection is one of the largest artists'
book collections in the United States. The collected
works include one-of-a-kind handmade books as well as
artists' books produced in limited editions. While the
collection primarily contains examples from the late
twentieth century, it also includes some earlier
pieces. The books range in size from miniatures to
large-scale objects that stretch out to several feet in
display form.
Jaffe is a board member of the Florida Humanities
Council, the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach
County and director of Israel Bonds.
