"¡Celebrando La Música!"
Celebrate the Music at FAU's 2004 Music Festival


BOCA RATON (February 4, 2004) - Florida Atlantic University's Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters presents its annual music festival Sunday, February 22 through Sunday, February 29 with the theme "¡Celebrando La Música!" So come "celebrate the music" with Latin jazz, tangos, mambos, a piano gala, Spanish opera and much more at concerts in Boca Raton, Davie, Fort Lauderdale and Jupiter.

Now in its fourth year, the FAU Music Festival showcases FAU's finest students, internationally acclaimed faculty and artists-in-residence. Music lovers throughout Palm Beach and Broward counties will enjoy festive, high quality performances. In addition, audiences can attend "Conversations with the Artists" one-half hour prior to each performance.

All Boca Raton events will take place at FAU's Boca Raton Campus, 777 Glades Road, in the Dorothy F. Schmidt Center for the Performing Arts complex.

Saturday, February 28, 6 p.m., Visual Arts Center Patio by the Lake - President's Reception. FAU President Frank T. Brogan will help kick off the Boca Raton events.

Saturday, February 28, 7:30 p.m., University Theatre - Piano Gala and FAU Chamber Singers with Vocal Selections from Zarzuelas, Spanish operas. This perennial favorite features FAU's top piano faculty and its ensembles in residence performing works for two, three and four pianos. FAU faculty include Heather Coltman and Irena Kofman and the ensembles-in-residence include Duo Turgeon (Edward Turgeon and Anne Louise-Turgeon) and the FAU Chamber Soloists (Judith Burganger and Leonid Treer). Patricia Fleitas will then direct the FAU Chamber Singers as they perform selections from Spanish operas known as Zarzuelas.

Sunday, February 29, 3 p.m., University Theatre - FAU Symphony Orchestra and FAU Wind Ensemble. FAU's Symphony Orchestra will be directed by Bryce Seliger and the Wind Ensemble will be directed by Brian Neal. The groups will perform the passionate songs of the tradition of the toreador (bullfight), including Ziguenerweisen, by Pablo de Sarasate; Blue Tango, by Leroy Anderson; and selections from West Side Story.

Broward events will take place in Fort Lauderdale and Davie.

Sunday, February 22, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., Las Olas Riverfront, Ft. Lauderdale - Latin Jazz Ensembles. FAU is partnering with Bank of America Fiesta Ft. Lauderdale in this free community event. FAU's Uwwalo Messengers will perform at 2 p.m. and Dame Más will perform at 4 p.m. Fiesta Ft. Lauderdale goes from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is free.

Saturday, February 28, 2 p.m, Liberal Arts Auditorium, FAU Davie Campus, 2912 College Avenue, Davie - Latin Jazz Ensembles. FAU's Uwwalo Messengers and Dame Más will perform Latin jazz favorites.

All Jupiter events will be held at FAU's John D. MacArthur Campus, 5353 Parkside Drive.

Sunday, February 29, 3 p.m., Auditorium - FAU Student Ensembles.

Sunday, February 29, 4:30 p.m., Library Atrium - Dean's Reception. William A. Covino, dean of the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, will host the reception.

All individual concert tickets are $12 and $15 for general admission, with the exception of the Fiesta Ft. Lauderdale concert, which is free. FAU faculty and staff may purchase two tickets for the price of one with a valid ID. FAU students may receive free tickets with a valid ID. For Boca Raton and Davie locations, tickets may be purchased at the Boca Raton Campus University Center Box Office at 561-297-3737 or by emailing ucboxoffice@fau.edu. For Jupiter concerts, you may call 561-799-8000. Tickets will also be available at the concert locations two hours prior to the performance.

Tickets for either of the receptions and one concert are $45. For reception reservations, contact the Boca Raton campus at 561-297-0033 or for the Jupiter reception, call 561-799-8000.
