FAU To Engage In Emergency Response Drill
BOCA RATON, FL (February 17, 2004)
--
Florida Atlantic University and
approximately 15 national, state and local agencies will
engage in an emergency response exercise on Friday, February
20 beginning at noon and continuing through Sunday, February
22, 2004.
FAU, which has participated in six
other drills this academic year, will host this full-scale
multi-agency emergency operations exercise titled,
Atlantic Response/Atlantic Hope. The exercise
will take place in Parking Lot #5 of FAUs Boca Raton
Campus, 777 Glades Road.
The exercise will simulate a
Homeland Security event involving a mass
casualty incident on university grounds. Surrounding
neighborhoods may notice some smoke and sirens coming from
the exercise site, as well as emergency response vehicles
and personnel on campus throughout the weekend as part of
the exercise. From Friday morning to Sunday afternoon Lot
#5 and its service road will be closed to pedestrian and
vehicular traffic for safety and security reasons.
The drill, which is a State of
Florida requirement for all state agencies, focuses on
testing, training and exercising all-hazard emergency
plans.
