Two FAU Professors Elected American Psychological Association Fellows

BOCA RATON, FL (December 17, 2003) – Two Florida Atlantic University professors, Dr. Brett Laursen and Dr. David Lewkowicz, have been elected by their peers as Fellows of the American Psychological Association (APA) for 2004.

APA Fellows are selected for their exceptional and outstanding contributions to the research, teaching or practice of psychology. Fellows must also demonstrate the national impact of their work, such as numerous research-based publications, leadership roles within psychology or community service in their clinical practice.

Dr. Laursen has been working at FAU since 1991, after receiving his degree from the University of Minnesota in 1989.

Dr. Lewkowicz received his degree from the City University of New York in 1979 and worked at the Institute for Basic Research in Developmental Disabilities, before coming to FAU this past year.

“This is very nice recognition from your peers for lots of hard work,” said Dr. Laursen. “It’s quite an honor to be recognized for our work in the field of psychology,” added Dr. Lewkowicz.

The APA, located in Washington D.C., is the largest scientific and professional organization representing psychology in the United States and is the world’s largest association of psychologists. APA’s membership includes more than 150,000 researchers, educators, clinicians, consultants and students.
