FAU Offers Nursing Programs On Treasure Coast Campus
PORT ST. LUCIE, FL (August 26, 2003) - Hospitals, health departments and other health care providers often require nurses with education beyond an associate's degree to fill supervisory, administrative, educational and advanced practice nursing positions. Florida Atlantic University's Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing responds to the need for entry level and advanced practice nurses in the area through several academic programs offered on the Treasure Coast Campus in Port St. Lucie.
"Our program is designed to help area nurses advance their professional qualifications. Required leadership, research and community-centered courses focus on nursing from a caring perspective," said Dr. Sue Borglund, assistant professor in the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing.
Programs at the campus include:
The Generic BSN Program: Students of varying academic backgrounds can apply for FAU's generic Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) program. The Treasure Coast Campus offers the professional phase of the generic BSN for transfer students with at least 60 college credit hours. The application deadline for this selective program is in March of each year.
The RN to BSN Program: Local registered nurses can work toward career advancement by enrolling in FAU's RN to BSN program. On the Treasure Coast Campus, nursing courses are offered in traditional classrooms and via distance learning. The BSN requirement of 40 hours in upper division course work can be partially satisfied with elective courses in critical care, school nursing, ethics and caring for self. Refer to FAU's academic calendar at www.fau.edu for general application deadlines.
The MSN Program: Registered nurses interested in administrative, education and nurse practitioner roles can earn FAU's Master of Science in nursing (MSN) degree through a combination of traditional and on-line classes at the Treasure Coast Campus. MSN graduates are prepared to assume positions with a broad scope of responsibilities. Refer to the FAU academic calendar at www.fau.edu for general application deadlines.
