Boca Raton Mayor Steve M. Abrams to Appear in FAU's Production of "South Pacific" on July 4th
BOCA RATON, FL (June 25, 2003) - Boca Raton Mayor Steve M. Abrams will make a special cameo appearance in Florida Atlantic University's production of "South Pacific" on July 4 at 4 p.m. The mayor will appear as a "visiting senator" making a surprise inspection of the troops. The play takes place in the University Theater of the Dorothy F. Schmidt Performing Arts Center at FAU and is part of the Fabulous 4th celebration presented in collaboration with the City of Boca Raton. Following the play, there will be food and family entertainment at 6 p.m., a concert of patriotic music at 7:30 p.m. and fireworks at 9 p.m. Tickets for the play are $15, and admission to the other festivities is free.
"I am thrilled to be part of this celebration at FAU on such an important date. This is going to be a fun, family day and I'm glad I can be a part of it," said Abrams.
"South Pacific" is a family musical considered by many to be one of the best musicals ever written. It is rich in humor and features some of the most enduring songs of the 20th century, including: "Some Enchanted Evening," "Bali Ha'i," and "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair." It is part of FAU's Festival Repertory Theatre 2003, which is a rotating schedule of two plays running through July 20. The other play in the series is "Hay Fever."
Tickets for "South Pacific" and "Hay Fever" are available by calling the FAU Box Office at 561 297-3737. The Box Office is located at FAU's University Center. The Boca Raton campus of FAU is located at 777 Glades Road, ½ mile east of I-95. Follow the signs to Schmidt Theaters/Gallery for "South Pacific."
