FAU's School of Social Work Receives Accreditation For Master of Social Work Program
BOCA RATON, FL (April 18, 2003) - To meet the emerging social welfare needs of south Florida, FAU implemented a Master of Social Work degree program. The School of Social Work received accreditation for its Master of Social Work program from the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), the national accrediting body for social work programs. The School earned accreditation for its program and is effective for students who graduated from the program beginning May 2002.
"In two and a half years, which is record time, FAU's staff and faculty developed, implemented and received national accreditation for this very important program," said Dr. Elwood Hamlin, associate professor of social work and coordinator of the MSW program. "Students graduating with this degree can become licensed as clinical social workers in Florida. This program is educating professional social workers to respond to the unique needs of the citizens of south Florida."
The newly accredited Master of Social Work degree is designed to prepare students for advanced entry into the social work profession. The program prepares current and future social work practitioners, supervisors, managers and leaders with a foundation of theoretical knowledge, practice skills and professional values necessary to deliver quality social work services.
The MSW program is accredited through February 2007, at which time the program will seek reaccreditation.
