FAU Hosts Celebration For Community Outreach Program
Florida Unit of Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic™,
learning through listening® to be Housed In Renovated FAU Building

BOCA RATON, FL (March 11, 2003) -- The Florida Unit of Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic will soon move to a fully renovated building on the Boca Raton campus of Florida Atlantic University.

A renovation is under way on the former FAU police station, which is being converted to a facility to house the community outreach service. Once completed, it will be called the Gladys Davis Pavilion and will house the first all-digital recording studio in the nation for RFB&D learning through listening® volunteers and staff. In addition, the renovated building will include a multi-purpose classroom.

Today, RFB&D, Florida Chairman Monty Trainer and Vice Chairman Joe Pineda prepared "A Taste of Paella" for supporters of RFB&D and FAU officials.

The Gladys L. Davis Pavilion was made possible by a $750,000 gift made to FAU by the Gladys L. Davis Trust. The gift was eligible for state matching funds. The gift agreement established a three-way linkage between FAU, the Mae Volen Senior Center and the Florida Unit of Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic to expand outreach services to senior citizens with vision problems.

The 4,980 square-foot building will house a fully equipped digital studio, where volunteers will record textbooks on CD for persons with vision, learning and physical impairments. The building will also serve as the Palm Beach county studio of the Florida Unit of Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic. The new facility is expected to be ready for occupancy by this summer.

RFB&D, FL is celebrating its 45th anniversary serving the print-disabled population of Florida. This facility will support the 10 other RFB&D sites across the state in its mission: For everyone to have equal access to the printed word.
